It really is over. We have reasoning that generalizes to unseen domains. Compute costs that will only plummet. Context windows that are only going to increase. Algorithms that are the worst they will ever be. Models that are learning to act, chaining complex tool calls, writing code, and executing plans over longer and longer time horizons with less and less human oversight. Five compounding curves, all moving in the same direction, none showing signs of slowing. There is no equilibrium where things settle down in a couple years and humans comfortably stay ahead.

This will make massive parallelized agentic work the only kind of digital labor worth paying for. Claude Code and Codex already demonstrate a mastery of the command line that exceeds the vast majority of developers at 10x the speed. For tasks that need to directly interface with GUIs, computer-use agents will soon fill the gaps. A digital entity that does everything a desk worker can do, but better and a thousand times faster.

My career, software engineering, is basically done now. I just ask Claude to fix things. One day soon that loop will close and the human (me) will be excised. The models are already smart enough. I'm just the middleman shuttling error messages to the command line, pulling something from the docker logs it missed, copying something from the browser's dev tools. Grabbing pieces of context it doesn't yet have the tools to fetch on its own. The senior engineer at work who six months ago took great pride in his hand-crafted code today showed off his Claude workflow to me.

I started as a developer in 2021. My first job out of college. I first used GitHub Copilot in late 2022. Some people wrongfully characterize modern LLMs as 'intelligent autocomplete' but back then they really were. You would write a comment and then it would infer what you wanted... maybe a simple for loop, some import statements... nothing that saved you more than a minute. It was the smallest hint of what was to come. Less than 1200 days. It has taken less than 1200 days to go from primitively inferring the next line or two to writing all my code.

The domain of this site is of course a reference to the line Anthropic's CEO Dario Amodei keeps using to conceptualize the impact of what's coming: a country of geniuses in a datacenter. I'm putting it up for sale as a last-ditch attempt to hypergamble my way out of the permanent underclass. An asymmetric bet on the realization of this analogy.
